What happens when your wording is longer than the words it replaces.

Click a page to place. Use Select to move, drag a corner to resize, Del to remove, and the arrow keys to nudge half a point at a time (hold Shift for five). Double-click any text to retype it.

Edit text highlights the wording already in the document. Click a highlighted line to retype it, click your own edit to come back to it, or empty it to delete it. The line keeps the size, spacing, colour and baseline it had, so a replacement of about the same length lands on the same letters. It is rewritten in the closest matching font, so an unusual typeface will look similar rather than identical. Scanned pages have no text to edit.

Edit paragraph takes a whole block at once, and the text re-wraps as you type: write more and it flows onto new lines, write less and it pulls back up. Use it for rewriting; use Edit text for a quick fix to one line. The paragraph keeps its own line spacing and letter spacing, and a red dashed line warns when it has grown into whatever sits below it.

Edit PDF text online

Click a line of text and retype it in place

The edit PDF text tool lets you change words that are already printed on the page. Click the line you want, type the new wording, and it takes the place of the old one keeping the same font, the same size and the same colour.

This is the fix for all the small things that go wrong after a document is finished. A wrong date, a misspelt name, an old price, a phone number that changed. You do not need the original Word file and you do not have to rebuild the page.

Questions people ask

It works on documents that hold real text. A scanned page is a picture with no text inside, so run it through our OCR PDF tool first.

A PDF line has a fixed space, so a much longer phrase can look tight. Keep the replacement close in length, or split it across the space available.

No. This changes the PDF directly and keeps the design exactly as it is. PDF to Word is better when you want to rewrite large sections.

Yes. Switch to the text tool in our PDF Editor and place a new text box anywhere on the page.
